Imperial Language

Classical Imperial is an isolating positional language. It has been imposed upon the various lands incorporated into the Empire in the course of its territorial expansion. It serves as a lingua franca throughout the Empire. This is also the version that Fuzs learned in his studies. Ruiso also knows it, and it is the official language of his country. All written documents are composed in this language. On a day to day basis, however, the inhabitants of the various corners of the Empire use their own languages for communication. These languages, deemed dialects, by the central Imperial authorities may be very different from the classical in term so grammar, structure, morphology and pronunciation. Shy attempts at writing down poems and ballads in these languages have been made but remain largely unknown.

The writing system of the classical Imperial is syllabic in nature. It consists of one hundred eighty one syllable symbols and ten vowel symbols.

We present them below for your entertainment. (A small disclaimer. While we have created this alphabet over ten years ago, only recently we have discovered that our former selves were actually crap at designing alphabets. So for this presentation we have totally overhauled the entire writing system. So the writings that appeared on the early pages of the comic have little in common with the newly remade version. We promise to standardise the writing throughout the comic. #weweredumbwhenwewere20)
